Reviewed a draft position paper on emergency department ambulance diversion. Approved its content and recommended a subcommittee make final editorial changes for the Executive Committee before distribution.

Reviewed an update on the Community Service, Education, and Research Fund (CSERF), the SPIRIT Project and the Adopt-A-School Program. Veronica Vasquez is the new Program Manager for CSERF. A major fundraising campaign has helped sustain the Spirit and Adopt-A-School Programs through 2002. Strategic planning meetings are being held by the seven partners (SSVMS, Sacramento County, Mercy Healthcare, Sutter Health, Sutter Medical Group, The Permanente Medical Group and UC Davis School of Medicine) to discuss the future sustainability of the programs.

Officially named the new medical museum the Sierra Sacramento Valley Museum of Medical History and approved its purpose — to serve as a scientific and educational resource for the preservation, display and interpretation of medical artifacts, writings, journals and text books. Also approved placing the museum under the umbrella of CSERF, a separate 501(c)(3) corporation, with the remaining cash assets from the Guttman Library transferred to CSERF.

Appointed Dr. Joseph Masters as the Society’s representative, with Dr. Thomas Amott as alternate, to the Coroner’s Office Advisory Committee for input to transition the Coroner’s Office from contract forensic pathologists and morgue services to county employees.
