Approved the 2002 Work Plan that includes: strengthen communications with members and nonmembers in El Dorado and Yolo counties; develop a new membership recruitment brochure; increase member participation in Society committees; continue to develop the SSVMS web site and implement the online membership directory; research potential funding for the Medical Museum's mission; develop a policy for dues discounts; strengthen CSERF's existing partnership and continue discussions of SPIRIT and the Adopt-A-School's short and long-term funding needs.

Denied a request to censure a member for an article in the January/February issue of SSV Medicine concerning healthcare inflation in the ER.

Approved a recommendation from the Society's financial investment advisor to invest a designated amount of the Building Fund into Pimco High Yield Fund.

Approved a $500 donation to the Heart Beat Run 2002 sponsored by the American Medical Student Association, UC Davis School of Medicine Chapter. Proceeds benefit AMSA's student run clinics that provide free healthcare to underserved populations in the greater Sacramento area as well as the AIDs Education Project.

Reviewed a summary of the County's January 29 Medical Marijuana Roundtable. SSVMS will convene a group of physician experts and others to review current information about therapeutic uses of marijuana, the law as currently written, and to determine what might be a reasonable standard within our region to help law enforcement determine the legitimacy of a person using marijuana for medical reasons.

Discussed a contract for correctional facility peer review services with Sacramento County. Approved signing only the second part of the contract that relates to the Society's role in conducting peer review of the County's correctional facilities and the fees to be charged.
