The board: Approved sending a letter to all local hospital chiefs of staff and the leadership of medical groups informing them of the AMA’s efforts to fix the Medicare reductions made by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and to encourage them to stay abreast of developments in this important effort by organized medicine.
Elected Margaret Parsons, MD, to the Board of Directors representing District 2, Office #8. Dr. Parsons fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Dr. John Kasch.
Approved the First Quarter Financial Statements ending March 31, 2002 and the Salomon Smith Barney Financial and Investment Reports.
Deferred action on a dues discount policy.
Approved the Membership Report:
For Reinstatement to Active Membership Following Payment of 2002 Dues —Richard Clark, MD; Richard Meister, MD; Steven Patching, MD.
For Affiliate Membership — Edward Dagher, MD
For a Change in Membership Status from Active to Postgraduate Leave — David M. Webb, MD
Approved sending a letter to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors suggesting an annual appeal to business and community-based organizations for contributions to keep the overflow facilities for the homeless open for a longer period of time.
Approved a $250 contribution to the John H. Jones Public Service Award and the Ada Merhoff Award event in Yolo County.
Approved forwarding to Glennah Trochet, MD, Public Health Officer for Sacramento County, the Report from the ad hoc Committee on Medicinal Marijuana that will hopefully provide law enforcement and others with helpful information regarding this issue.
Approved the nomination of Drs. Captane Thomson and Denise Greene to CMA’s Mental Health Technical Advisory Committee.
Approved participation of Board member Dr. Satya Chatterjee, and Executive Director William Sandberg in The California Endowment’s Medical Leadership Council on Language Access.
