Received a report that California Healthcare Advocates, a nonprofit organization that runs the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, has signed a five-year lease for a 1,000-square foot office on the first floor. Directed staff to work with the Executive Committee on authorization of the construction cost and approval of a contractor for the first floor rental.
Approved the Second Quarter Financial Statements and the SalomonSmithBarney Investment Reports, both ending June 30, 2002.
Approved the 2003 budget; computer hardware and software purchases for 2003 will be paid from the Building Fund rather than the General Fund.
Reviewed projected expenses for Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine and possible cost savings. Asked the Editorial Committee to suggest ways to reduce costs.
Approved three William E. Dochterman Medical Student Scholarships totaling $4,400.

Ed Rudin, MD, Editor, Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine, reviewed Editorial Committee ideas to reduce production costs. He announced his resignation as editor at the end of 2002, and introduced Dr. John Loofbourow, the incoming editor. The Board extended its appreciation to Dr. Rudin for his outstanding leadership as editor.
Received a presentation from Amerish Bera, MD, medical director, Primary Health Services for Sacramento County, on the county's SacAdvantage Program. Endorsed the program, which uses tobacco settlement funds to provide health insurance to the working uninsured.
Approved the nomination of Dean Rinard, MD, for Director, District 3, Office 3; he succeeds Andrew Hudnut, MD, who resigned.
As executive director for CMA's 11th District, Mr. Bill Sandberg reported on a meeting of medical society leaders in the 18-county district to discuss mergers and/or management arrangements. Each medical society is at a different point in evaluating its future direction, and all agreed to re-visit this issue at a later date.
Approved a $2 increase for the annual Directory (from $10 to $12 for members, and $24 to $26 for nonmembers) and a subsequent increase in the Retired Members' publication fee.

Authorized participation in the Medical Board of California's pre-test of a statewide physician survey to 200 randomly selected Society members. The survey was mandated by 2001 legislation to gather demographic information from all licensed physicians in California to study physician supply and its impact on patient access. The pretest will help uncover any problems so improvements can be made for the final survey.
Serving as the Administrative Board to the BloodSource of Sacramento (formerly the Blood Center), the Board approved the following new members to the BloodSource Board of Trustees: Michael Chapman, MD, and George Chiu, MD, for a first three-year terms; Ms. Cynthia Brandt, Nelson K. Kaneishi, MD, and Brian McClay, Esq. to second three-year terms. Additionally, the following officers of the BloodSource Board of Trustees were approved: President, Michael Ueltzen, CPA; Vice-President, Gerald Simon, MD; Secretary, Mary Vedo, MT; Assistant Secretary, Geneva Larson; Treasurer, David Ditora, Esq.; Members-at-Large: William Keane, MD, Michael Sugawara, MD and Mr. Thomas Slagle.
