The Board approved the purchase of two tables at the Doctors and Lawyers Gala Event benefiting the SPIRIT Project and Adopt-A-School Program of the Society's Community Service, Education and Research Fund.
Approved sending a letter to Mrs. Victoria Ruderman thanking her for providing the cover photographs for the SSV Medicine and Directory this year.
Approved the Second Quarter Financial Statements Ending June 30, 2003.
Approved granting five William E. Dochterman Medical Student Scholarships to John M. Compoginis, Lloyd G. Connelly, Kim-Lien Thi Nguyen, Graham C. Scanlon and Erin M. Skolness.
Received a report on the Coalition to Preserve Emergency Care (CPEC) November 2004 California Ballot Initiative, a collaborative effort of the California Healthcare Association, the California Medical Association, the Emergency Nurses Association of California and the California Primary Care Association. It would increase the tax on the 911 telephone system by a maximum of 50 cents a month. Funds would be allocated back to counties for distribution through county EMS funds for emergency physicians, on-call physicians and others who treat the uninsured in emergency situations and who are not reimbursed for that care.

The Board approved the 2004 Budget after deleting projected income for Directory Advertising - a Directory will not be published in 2004.
Approved annual nominations to CMA Councils and Committees as follows: Council on Ethical Affairs - Drs. Satya Chatterjee and Stephen Skinner; Committee on Health Professions and Licensure - Dr. Barbara Arnold; Committee on Medical Services - Dr. David Gibson; Subcommittee on Physicians' Confidential Line - Dr. Lee Snook; Council on Legislation - Dr. Richard Pan; Committee on the Well-Being of Physicians - Dr. Thomas Atkins.
Reviewed the 2003 Nominating Committee Report listing nominations to vacancies on the Board of Directors and the Delegation to the California Medical Association. The report will be mailed to all active membership October 17. The Society Bylaws allow any active member to submit additional nominations by completing the Nominating Form and returning it to the Society office by October 27.
Reviewed a report from CMA on impact of recent California legislation, SB 186, which, if passed, will prohibit unsolicited commercial e-mail ads. Also reviewed CMA's report on federal legislation amending The Telephone Consumer Protection Act on unsolicited facsimile ads.
