The Board:
Elected Kuldip Sandhu, MD, Secretary and Margaret Parsons, MD, Treasurer for 2004; voted to support the City of Sacramento licensing ordinance for retail tobacco sales; and viewed a demonstration of the Society's web site, including its online Membership Directory.
By visiting the SSVMS web site, members can update and add information about their practice that is frequently viewed by the general public. Also, bulletin boards have been added that allow members to buy or sell an automobile, post and/or review physician practice opportunities and submit comments on articles in Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine.
Serving as the Administrative Board to the BloodSource of Sacramento: approved John Kiraly, MD, and John B. Serving as the administrative board to BloodSource Sacramento, received an annual update on its activities from Paul Holland, MD, Medical Director/CEO.
Reviewed a video produced by CMA on the struggles at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura and how the medical staff fought to protect its self-governance.
Reviewed a report by CMA's Health Care Financing Technical Advisory Committee outlining CMA's positions on health reform. The report will be presented to CMA's House of Delegates in March for approval.

Approved a contribution to the 2004 HeartBeat Run sponsored by the American Medical Students Association, U. C. Davis Chapter. Proceeds benefit the medical clinics serving the medically indigent people in our community.

The Board:
Approved the un-audited financial statements ending December 31, 2003.
Approved the 2003 fourth quarter Smith Barney investment reports and recommendations including new investment policies, increasing equity exposure, moving all funds into the TRAK program and recommendations concerning general fund investments.
Reviewed a CMA Report of the Physician Dispute Resolution TAC to be presented to the 2004 CMA House of Delegates. The report calls for establishing an arbitration system to be run by participating county medical societies that will provide for a binding resolution of payment disputes between physicians and private third party payers.
