Approved the First Quarter Financial Statements and SmithBarney Investment Reports.

Received an update on SSVMS' Resolution in favor of implementing SB 1159 in Sacramento County.

The law, if implemented by the Board of Supervisors, would permit pharmacies to sell up to 10 clean needles and syringes to anyone over 18 without a prescription. Participating pharmacies would furnish sharps containers, drug abuse and treatment information. Law enforcement has stated it opposes implementation. A meeting has been scheduled with representatives of the Sheriff, Probation Department and District Attorney on this issue.

Declined sponsorship of the Environmental Council of Sacramento's Art Auction.

Approved an amendment to the SSVMS Money Purchase Employee Pension Plan concerning options for dispensing pension funds after an employee retires or resigns.

Approved the annual Financial Report for December 31, 2004 as presented by Harry Cahill, CPA, Auditor.

Received another update on SB 1159. SSVMS is working to convince the Board of Supervisors that implementing SB 1159 in Sacramento County will significantly reduce the spread of hepatitis, HIV and other blood borne diseases by injection drug users.

On June 1, SSVMS physician-members met with representatives from the Sheriff, Probation Department and District Attorney Office to answer questions and to demonstrate that this is a simple, inexpensive, low risk, and high-return public health measure. The Board of Supervisors will consider this matter in August.

Approved endorsing the American Academy of Pain Management's educational program, "Essentials of Pain Medicine: What you Need to Know on the Front Line of Medicine" to be held September 17-18 in Los Angeles. Members of endorsing organizations receive a discounted registration rate for the course.
