Your $$ Make a Difference

CSERF PROGRAMS
By Melissa Parlee-Hirth

THE YEARS HAVE WITNESSED the many successes of the SPIRIT Project and Adopt-A-School Program of the Community Service, Education and Research Fund (CSERF). As these programs grow and continue to provide access to medical care and health education to individuals and families, they become an ever-important part of the Medical Society and our mission. We need your donations to continue providing charity care to our local region.

Recognizing the importance of sustaining these programs, the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society and the Sierra Health Foundation have each donated $25,000 in matching funds to the SPIRIT Project and Adopt-A-School Program. What does this mean to you? It gives you the ability to turn a $50 donation into $150.

To kick off the campaign, the SSVMS Board of Directors made individual contributions to CSERF to raise a total of $12,300 for the programs. We have $87,700 to go to reach our goal, and hope to make it by August 2001.

Your tax-deductible contribution helps recruit and coordinate the on-going efforts of SPIRIT and Adopt-A-School volunteers, as well as plan and implement expansion of the programs. We are also able to evaluate the programs and share our knowledge with other medical societies and communities interested in developing similar projects. Reaching our goal will help sustain SPIRIT and Adopt-A-School for over two years.

Since 1995, SPIRIT volunteers have donated over $2 million in free medical services and seen nearly 10,000 uninsured patients. Each year Adopt-A-School volunteers provide face-to-face classroom presentations to nearly 7,000 students. We really are making a difference!

We hope you will be able to make a contribution and have included a donation envelope in this issue for your convenience.

We thank the following individuals and organizations for their generous contributions. The donors listed below contributed to CSERF from January 2000 - January 2001.
