There are volunteer openings in three important community programs in which the Medical Society plays a key role.

By Melissa Parlee-Hirth, SPIRIT Program Manager
THE COMMUNITY SERVICES, Education and Research Fund (CSERF) has volunteer openings within three exciting programs for physicians and nurses:
Shots for Tots Speakers Bureau To raise awareness about the importance of immunizations for infants and toddlers in neighborhoods with low immunization rates, the Shots for Tots Regional Coalition and the SPIRIT Project recently created a community-based speakers bureau, the
Why Immunize? program.
The
Why Immunize? program needs health care volunteers to present information about the importance of childhood immunizations to a wide range of adult groups. Evening volunteer opportunities are also available.
The HEALTH Project The HEALTH Project works with approximately 500 single, formerly homeless men and women who currently have limited access to health care and live in four transitional housing facilities.
The HEALTH Project needs health care volunteers to provide adult health education to their residents. Volunteers give presentations about preventative health issues. We have three presentation dates in August and September for which we are recruiting volunteers. Evening volunteer opportunities are also available.
The Adopt-A-School Program Share your health knowledge with school- aged children by presenting in local Sacramento classrooms. The Adopt-A-School Program places volunteer physicians and nurses in classrooms to assist with students' health education and moreover provide positive role models.
Although most schools are out for the summer, this is an excellent time to join the program so that we may have you placed in the school of your choice for the beginning of the 2000-2001 academic year.
If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, please call the CSERF office at 916-453-0254 and we will be happy to assist you!
