"Courtyard Vine" is the second of six covers this year by Sacramento Photographer Liz Welsh Abad. It was taken in May 1999 at a country inn on an old farm estate, near Santiago de Compostela, Spain. As the sun moved, the shadow patterns of the grapevine canopy gradually advanced across the courtyard wall, she says, "like frames from a slow-motion picture." Windows frequently appear in her photos, She is attracted to windows (and glass), and the way they transmit light and reflect thier surroundings. For her, "Windows are the eyes of a building."
