How Much Are the Dues?
Physicians in full time practice who wish to belong must join both the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society (SSVMS) and the California Medical Association (CMA). Membership in the American Medical Association is optional in California but highly encouraged. AMA membership is $420 per year.Active membership for full time physicians is $425 for the SSVMS and $590 for the CMA for a total of $1015 per year. Physicians who are employed by city, county, state or federal government pay half dues. Many of the specialty and multi-specialty group practices in El Dorado, Sacramento and Yolo Counties require their physicians to belong, strongly encourage and pay for membership or assist in the payment of dues.
The SSVMS and the CMA in these three counties do not provide "group discounts" to medical groups or other physician organizations. We do offer 50% discount to all physicians (except those in government practice), regardless of mode of practice if they are first time members in California. The 50% first year discount is applied for the year that the physician first joins. A 25% discount is given for the second year and full dues are required in the third year and going forward from there.
