Bitters, Cures and Remedies
Thousands of "cures" were available before laws and regulations prevented the use of this term. These generally ineffective preparations were then referred to as "remedies". "Bitters" were an alcoholic solution of bitter and often aromatic plant products used as a tonic for various disorders.
