About the Cover
|
In 1966, James Affleck, MD, took a Stanford Alumni trip around the world via airplane. He knew one destination would be the Taj Mahal, in Agra, India, so he lugged a heavy tripod along to steady his 35mm Minolta camera. He arrived at the Taj Mahal at dawn, only to learn at the gate that "commercial photography" was prohibited — which meant he had to leave the tripod at the gate. He took a half-dozen hand-held shots, and this cover is one of them. The photo has been scanned into a computer and a few pedestrians scrubbed from the scene. The tripod? It was hauled the rest of the way around the world — unused. |
