PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Prop 35 - Protecting Access to Care

The "Protect Access to Care," Proposition 35, initiative has officially qualified for the November 2024 ballot, marking a historic moment for healthcare in California.

This initiative maintains an existing tax on health insurance companies, channeling billions of dollars in federal funding to improve care for our patients, especially the 15 million Californians who rely on Medi-Cal. It's backed by a diverse coalition, including healthcare providers, labor unions, and both major political parties. SSVMS and CMA are both in support.

Key benefits include increased reimbursement rates for Medi-Cal providers, some of which haven't been updated in decades. This change is vital for addressing the provider shortages, particularly in underserved areas. Additionally, the initiative will expand education and training programs to create a new pipeline of healthcare professionals, from physicians to medical assistants.

Our work is essential, and this initiative will provide the tools and resources needed to continue delivering high-quality care. Let's stand together in support of the "Protect Access to Care" initiative and ensure a healthier future for all Californians.

In the coming months, SSVMS and CMA will be focusing heavily on this matter in all manners from fundraising to getting out the vote.

Thank you!
