SSV Medical Society News - 2025 - Volume 14 - Issue 07 Upcoming Events, Latest News, and More MEDICAL SOCIETY NEWS STAY CURRENT WITH IMPORTANT MEMBER-ONLY NEWS AND INFORMATION THANK YOU FOR YOUR SSVMS/CMA MEMBERSHIP PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE We Swore an Oath Despite urgent warnings from physicians nationwide and overwhelming concern, last week’s vote in Congress slashed Medicaid and threatens care for millions. As an emergency physician, I know firsthand what happens when patients lose access – people arrive sicker, later, and often beyond help. This isn’t just a policy decision. It’s a decision that will lose lives we could have saved. It targets the most vulnerable: children, seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities. Hospitals will close. Clinics will cut staff. Emergency rooms like mine will be overpacked. And the safety net that holds communities together will begin to unravel. But while this vote is a loss and will do irreparable harm to millions, it cannot be the end. As physicians, we are trained to act under pressure. To adapt. To persist. We must use this moment as fuel as we fight for our patients and hold elected leaders accountable for the real-world impact of their choices. This vote will have devastating consequences, but our fight for access, equity, and compassion in health care is far from over. SSVMS will continue to monitor the effects and reactions to this vote. Keep your eyes open for steps you can take to protect yourself, your practice, and your patients as implementation begins.
