Medical Society News

April 2021

Greetings!

To ensure vaccine equity, SSVMS is seeking multilingual physicians to join our Speakers Bureau and help educate communities who don’t speak English as a primary language. Physician volunteers may be called on to provide presentations about the vaccine to small community groups or public forums on behalf of the public health officers in Sacramento, El Dorado and Yolo counties. Presentation materials and resources are provided. Message Brandon Craig at bcraig@ssvms.org to join our Vaccine Equity Speakers Bureau.

If you know other multilingual physicians in the area, please recommend them as well. We are interested in any and all languages, but presently have a particular need for Spanish, Vietnamese, Hmong, and Russian speakers.

COVID-19 Buttons FAQ Cards

SSVMS's "Got My Vaccine!" buttons promote vaccination and our digital FAQ cards spread the facts about the COVID-19 vaccine. Our digital FAQ cards are available on our website in English, Spanish, Russian, Hmong, and Vietnamese. The buttons will have a barcode that can be scanned and lead to our digital FAQ cards. Button supply is limited and available only to SSVMS members.

SSVMS members can email Brandon Craig at bcraig@ssvms.org to order their free buttons.

SSVMS Offers Free Face Shields

SSVMS has procured nearly 2 million dollars worth of PPE this year, including thousands of face shields through our Operation Shields Up initiative. These high quality face shields are available at no cost to SSVMS members. Get yours while supplies last by contacting Dana Brooks at dbrooks@ssvms.org.

SSVMS has partnered with CMA and the State of California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) to offer PPE at no cost to physician practices and clinics. To place an order, access CMA’s new PPE Relief Portal. Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine

We would like to understand how residents of the greater Sacramento community think about COVID-19. Based on your discussions with your patients, please answer the following questions.

  1. What is a common rationale for not wearing masks as recommended by the CDC?
  2. What is a common rationale for declining a COVID-19 vaccine?

Please limit your explanations to no more than 200 words. Your responses may be published in SSV Medicine.

Send your comments to lcoate@ssvms.org.

Thank you,
SSVMS Editorial Committee
