SSV Medical Society News - 2019 - Volume 8 - Issue 10 Latest News from Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society MEDICAL SOCIETY NEWS Volume 8, Issue 10 October, 2019 The Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society is dedicated to bringing together physicians from all modes of practice to promote the art and science of quality medical care and to enhance the physical and mental health of our entire community. Dear Physicians, The California State Legislature has adjourned for this year and the California Medical Association, working on behalf of physicians and your patients, continued its string of legislative victories with two key wins. SSVMS put out grassroots alerts and doctors responded strongly in supporting our efforts in the Legislature. CMA was able to stop AB 1404 by Assemblyman Santiago from advancing. This onerous bill would have required a health care entity to disclose a contracted physician's complete compensation information, including base compensation, deferred compensation, and any bonuses and incentives that are part of their total compensation. The Legislature also passed a CMA-sponsored bill, AB 744 by Assemblywoman Aguiar-Curry, to increase patient access through telehealth by requiring payment for telehealth services. The bill will require health insurers to cover services provided via telehealth in the same way they would pay for an in-person meeting. Most significantly, the Governor signed legislation to prevent fraudulent school-exemption vaccines - SB 276 by SSVMS' own Senator Dr. Richard Pan. Thank you for practicing medicine in the Sacramento region! Christian L. Serdahl, MD President, Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society 2020 Committee and Community Service Opportunities!
