SSV Medical Society News - 2026 - Volume 15 - Issue 06 Upcoming Events, Latest News, and More MEDICAL SOCIETY NEWS STAY CURRENT WITH IMPORTANT MEMBER-ONLY NEWS AND INFORMATION THANK YOU FOR YOUR SSVMS/CMA MEMBERSHIP PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE The Investment of Public Health Current events remind us that infectious diseases remain a constant challenge. Health officials are currently responding to outbreaks of Ebola in Central Africa, while health authorities in the United States continue monitoring individuals exposed during a recent hantavirus outbreak linked to international travel. These threats may seem distant but they highlight the critical role that public health systems play in detection, prevention, and response. As counties throughout our region face significant budget challenges, SSVMS has been actively advocating for continued investment in public health programs and personnel. We have engaged with local leaders and submitted letters to emphasize the importance of maintaining the workforce and resources necessary to meet the growing health needs of our communities. You can read the letters here (Sacramento; Yolo). County budget hearings will provide important opportunities for public input. The hearings for El Dorado and Yolo Counties will both take place June 9. Sacramento County's hearings are scheduled for June 10-12. We are looking for physicians to attend and defend the important work our public health departments do. Please contact Lindsay at lcoate@ssvms.org if you have interest. The health of our communities depends not only on the care delivered in clinics and hospitals, but also on the public health systems that support all of us. SSVMS will continue advocating for both. Thank you! Rick Vitangcol, MD SSVMS President I'll Go to the Budget Hearings!
