February 2021

Greetings!

Hesitancy in our community and among health care workers to get the COVID vaccine threatens to slow down progress to reach herd immunity. Physicians play a key role in encouraging the public to get the COVID-19 Vaccine. Physicians can use our SSVMS COVID-19 Vaccine FAQ cards that have carefully crafted talking points on the COVID vaccine to spark discussion with patients about vaccine safety, science, and efficacy.
We have also created buttons for physicians to wear, which will promote vaccination and #CrushingCOVID-19. The public may trust the vaccine if their own physician has received it. Order your SSVMS members-only buttons and FAQ cards here. Share them, wear them, and send SSVMS your selfies to mturner@ssvms.org for our media platforms.

In the News

A study, conducted by SSVMS member Dr. Peter Yellowlees and SSVMS staff Aileen Wetzel and Lindsay Coate, found a strong correlation between ACES and physician burnout in the Sacramento Region.

Start the Year with a Joy of Medicine Checkup

As 2021 begins, and we start to see a dim light at the end of the long tunnel of COVID-19, we encourage you to schedule a resiliency consultation with one of our Joy of Medicine psychologists or life coaches. Every physician in the Sacramento region is eligible for up to six sponsored sessions with a provider of your choice.

Joy of Medicine On-Call

SSVMS President Carol Kimball, practicing family medicine physician at Dignity Health, talked to Dr. Peter Yellowlees about her journey, becoming a leader in the medical community and her experience with physician burnout. Dr. Kimball shares with us what she learned in her recovery and her passion for designing quality into medical systems and progressing clinical workflows.

Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine

We would like to understand how residents of the greater Sacramento community think about COVID-19. Based on your discussions with your patients, please answer the following questions.

  1. What is a common rationale for not wearing masks as recommended by the CDC?
  2. What is a common rationale for declining a COVID-19 vaccine?

Please limit your explanations to no more than 200 words. Your responses may be published in SSV Medicine.

Send your comments to lcoate@ssvms.org.

Thank you,
SSVMS Editorial Committee

Recently, the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society rebranded our annual sponsorship program to be the Partners in Medicine. Although the name has changed, we’re excited to announce the support from these groups has remained steadfast:

Please consider these groups when in need of services. We look forward to continuing our important relationships with each of these Partners.
