October 2020
Dear Colleagues,

With flu season just around the corner, now is the best time to start talking to your patients about getting their annual flu vaccination. This year is more important than ever to get the flu shot as COVID-19 is continuing to spread. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone 6 months or older get a flu vaccine. Your strong influenza vaccine recommendation is one of the most important factors in patients accepting the vaccine. Encourage your patients to contact their primary care physician or clinic for vaccine availability. Another great resource is vaccinefinder.org. For low or no cost flu shot clinics by county, click on the following links:

Be well and thank you for your important role in protecting the health of our community.

SSVMS/SSVMSA Blood Drive

The Sacramento region is facing a blood supply shortage as many local blood drives have been cancelled due to COVID-19. The Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society, Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society Alliance, and Vitalant are joining forces to help meet the need for donations.

You can make a difference! In addition to helping patients, all blood donations are tested for COVID-19 antibodies and donors will be notified of these results. To comply with social distancing, donors are asked to schedule an appointment. All donors are required to wear face coverings.
